Heard about SOPA
That a bill that US want to pass to control internet. I'm pretty sure that you can find information on the net about it. Anyway, if that happen, I stop using internet. Call my provider and cancel my internet. I'm not gonna let a greedy/control manic country tell me what to do and how to do it.
Because, it's gonna affect all of the internet. Not only US based sites.
EDIT: To protest, I won't be online as of now until Thursday.

SOPA and PIPA are the two that we are up against, but it's mostly SOPA that would affect the internet the most. It'll censor popular sites like YouTube, but it has tight restrictions that would censor even sites with no infringement. Not to mention this would totally override the fair use law we currently have.

Re: Heard about SOPA
I completely know about that.
American want to control the world. And the intrawebs too. If this happens, I'll give you my adios and you'll never see me again on the net. Sad, but heh. What would be the use of a restricted internet for people anyway? None.

Re: Heard about SOPA
Everyone has probably heard about what happened to megaupload. Here's an article titled, 'Two lessons from the Megaupload seizure'. I post the most interesting snippet in my perspective after skimming it.
We don’t need any law expressly stating that we can imprison people without charges: we do it when we want without that law.
That’s more or less what happened with the SOPA fight. It’s true that website-seizures-without-trials are not quite as lawless as indefinite detentions, since there are actual statutes conferring this power. But it nonetheless sends a very clear message when citizens celebrate a rare victory in denying the Government a power it seeks — the power to shut down websites without a trial — only for the Government to turn around the very next day and shut down one of the world’s largest and best-known sites. Whether intended or not, the message is unmistakable: Congratulations, citizens, on your cute little “democracy” victory in denying us the power to shut down websites without a trial: we’re now going to shut down one of your most popular websites without a trial. - Read more

Re: Heard about SOPA
Well, as somebody wrote (but I can't remember the site of that article), Obama and Co. Were against the bill. So, to just show they don't need it, they did this. Yeah, they've done something bad in order to stop something worst. And anyway, that's just gonna be like Napster in the time. They'll close it and 10 new ones will rise out of nowhere.

Yeah, here in Canada, this was signed 4 months ago. Next step is the European Union. And if they sign, well, let's just say a lot of countries from the union are harbors to pirate sites. Anyway, I did sign too. Free internet is good internet.

Re: Heard about SOPA
My guess is that they'll actually shut down a pirate site once in a while, but they'll go after sites that are "bad", Wikileak is an example of bad. Free thinking and freedom of speech is not really liked the govs of the world... Well, mostly by the US gov, but they "control" the other govs that are alligned with them, so...
